Ohio Wesleyan Student Aaina Gupta Presents Research at Science Symposium

2015 Sep 23

More than 40 Ohio Wesleyan University student-scientists shared the results of their 10-week summer science research projects Sept. 21 at the university's 23rd annual Patricia Belt Conrades Summer Science Research Symposium.

Aaina Gupta of Cuyahoga Falls presented "Haplotype Mediated Transcriptional Regulation of Human Angiotensin Type 1 Receptor (HAT1R) Gene." Gupta was mentored by Ashok Kumar and Nitin Puri, Department of Physiology and Pharmacology, University of Toledo.

The students presented information and answered questions about their research findings, which were documented in posters outlining each project.

"Science cannot be learned solely from a book," said Laura Tuhela-Reuning, Ph.D., assistant director of the Summer Science Research Program and part-time professor of botany-microbiology and zoology. "Science must be experienced through research, and at OWU, we encourage students to plunge in, preparing them to be successful researchers both at OWU and at other universities. Many first-year students are surprised to learn that they can contribute in substantive scientific research from the moment they arrive on campus."
