Ryan Bishop of Sofia, Bulgaria, Awarded Theory-to-Practice Grant from Ohio Wesleyan University

2016 Dec 2

Ryan Bishop of Sofia, Bulgaria, has been awarded a Theory-to-Practice Grant from Ohio Wesleyan University. The grants support research, internships, service, and cultural immersion opportunities throughout the world.

The Theory-to-Practice Grant awarded to Bishop supports a project titled "Island Queerness: A Study on the Experiences of Taiwanese Queer People," which will be conducted in May in Taiwan with fellow OWU student Spencer Zhang of China.

Since launching the Theory-to-Practice Grant program in 2009, Ohio Wesleyan has awarded nearly $1.67 million in university-funded grants to the campus community, enabling more than 800 OWU students, faculty, and staff to conduct research or complete special projects in more than 60 countries, including the United States.

Ohio Wesleyan's Theory-to-Practice Grant program is competitive, with submissions evaluated by the university's Committee on Teaching, Learning, and Cross-Cultural Programming and awarded by the administration.

The grants are part of The OWU Connection, Ohio Wesleyan's signature program to help students to connect academic theories and concepts learned in the classroom with meaningful, real-world experiences that prepare them for success and leadership in today's global society.
