Ohio Wesleyan Students Serve Others during Spring Break

Two teams of Ohio Wesleyan University students spent a week helping others as part of OWU's annual Spring Break Service Week program. One group traveled to South Carolina and worked to improve public trails and prepare urban gardens within a framework of centering Black students in a space of belonging. The other traveled to New Orleans, Louisiana, to help residents still overcoming hurricane damage. The teams traveled between March 8 and March 16, 2025. Congratulations to all involved for a successful week of life-changing learning and service!

Ohio Wesleyan Students Serve Others during Spring Break

Two teams of Ohio Wesleyan University students spent a week helping others as part of OWU's annual Spring Break Service Week program. One group traveled to Lakota Nation, South Dakota, and worked with the Lakota Youth Development, a nonprofit organization located on the Rosebud Sioux Tribe Reservation. The other traveled to South Carolina, and worked to improve trails at a state park and prepare urban garden spaces within a framework of centering Black students in a space of belonging. They traveled between March 9 and March 17, 2024. Congratulations to all involved for a successful week of life-changing learning and service!

Ohio Wesleyan Students Serve Others during Spring Break

Two teams of Ohio Wesleyan University students spent a week helping others as part of OWU's annual Spring Break Service Week program. One group traveled to Lakota Nation, South Dakota, and worked with the Lakota Youth Development, a nonprofit organization located on the Rosebud Sioux Tribe Reservation. The other traveled to Houston, Texas, and worked with the nonprofit organization SBP to help rebuild two hurricane-damaged homes. They traveled between March 11 and March 19, 2023. Congratulations to all involved for a successful week of life-changing learning and service!

Ohio Wesleyan Students Serve Others during Spring Break

Two teams of Ohio Wesleyan University students spent a week helping others as part of OWU's annual Spring Break Service Week program. One group traveled to Lakota Nation, South Dakota, and worked with the Lakota Youth Development, a nonprofit organization located on the Rosebud Sioux Tribe Reservation. The other traveled to Houston, Texas, and worked with SBP to help rebuild a home damaged by Hurricane Harvey in 2017. They traveled between March 5 and 13, 2022. Ohio Wesleyan Students Serve Others during Spring Break

Nearly 30 Ohio Wesleyan University students traveled to four sites in the United States and Mexico to complete learning and service experiences as part of OWU's 2019 Spring Break Interfaith Service Week. During their trips, the teams were guided by the program's "essential pillars" of restorative justice, transformative reflection, substantive community, and conscientious leadership. The students and their faculty-staff advisers traveled to the Lakota Nation in South Dakota to help rebuild Lakota-Anglo relationships and support Native American youth; to New York City to explore the intersection of gender, sexuality, and poverty; to Mexico to examine the economics of social responsibility and sustainable practices; and to Washington, D.C., to explore the many facets of power and poverty. Congratulations to all involved for a successful week of life-changing learning and service!

Nearly 40 Ohio Wesleyan University students traveled to five sites in the United States and Mexico as part of OWU's 2018 spring break Interfaith Service week. The students and their faculty-staff advisers traveled to Houston and New Orleans to repair hurricane-damaged homes; to the Lakota Nation in South Dakota to help rebuild Lakota-Anglo relationships and support Native American youth; to Philadelphia to explore multiple faith traditions; and to Mexico to examine the economics of social responsibility and sustainable practices. Ohio Wesleyan Students Serve Others during Spring Break

Nearly 60 Ohio Wesleyan University students spent spring break participating on one of OWU's seven Interfaith Service teams. Chad Johns, director of the Interfaith Service program, said the student-created teams incorporate "intentional service and reflection with people of diverse faiths, philosophies, and perspectives [to] deepen our understanding of ourselves and each other, even as we work to improve the world around us."
