Ohio Wesleyan University inducted 38 new members this spring into its Eta Chapter of the Phi Beta Kappa National Academic Honor Society. The new inductees join a historic organization that counts 17 U.S. presidents, 42 Supreme Court justices, and more than 150 Nobel laureates among its members. Based in Washington, D.C., Phi Beta Kappa was founded in 1776, and its name originated from the motto "Love of learning is the guide of life." Ohio Wesleyan's Eta Chapter was founded in 1907. Congratulations to OWU's newest Phi Beta Kappa inductees!

Ohio Wesleyan University inducted 15 first-year students into its chapter of the Phi Eta Sigma National Honor Society this spring. Phi Eta Sigma recognizes first-year students who are taking a full academic course load and achieve a grade point average of at least 3.50 during their first year on campus. Founded in 1923, Phi Eta Sigma is the nation's oldest and largest honor society for first-year college and university students in all disciplines. Its motto is "Knowledge is Power." Congratulations to the 2025 inductees!

The Woltemade Center for Economics, Business and Entrepreneurship at Ohio Wesleyan University has selected eight students for admittance into its fall class of Corns Business and Entrepreneurial Scholars. The competitive program is open to sophomores who have demonstrated strong academic performance, leadership in campus or community service organizations, and potential for achievement in business or entrepreneurship. Ohio Wesleyan University has welcomed 16 first-year students into its Palmer Global Scholars Program in recognition of their potential for high academic achievement and passion for international issues. The selective four-year scholars program is part of Ohio Wesleyan's Global Studies Institute, a hub where faculty and students from the natural sciences, social sciences, humanities, and fine arts come together to explore issues from all academic disciplines and work toward real-world solutions. The competitive grants support policy and program analysis, curricular changes and course development, small-scale survey work, creative projects, or community conversations designed to produce evidence-based, actionable recommendations for change. Ohio Wesleyan University held its 2025 Spring Student Symposium on April 17 with nearly 100 students sharing research and creative projects that highlight the breadth, depth, and quality of work produced this academic year. Congratulations to all of the participants!

Ohio Wesleyan University is awarding nearly $88,000 in competitive Theory-to-Practice Grants this spring to help students complete OWU Connection experiences that apply their academic knowledge to hands-on, real-world projects outside the classroom. The university awards multiple rounds of Theory-to-Practice Grants (TPGs) each academic year to support its signature student experience, the OWU Connection. Fully incorporated into the university's curriculum, the OWU Connection requires all students to complete at least one project that requires them to Think Big (complete undergraduate research), Do Good (participate in community-engaged learning, including student leadership), Go Global (complete off-campus study), or Get Real (explore their future careers through meaningful internships and externships). Two teams of Ohio Wesleyan University students spent a week helping others as part of OWU's annual Spring Break Service Week program. One group traveled to South Carolina and worked to improve public trails and prepare urban gardens within a framework of centering Black students in a space of belonging. The other traveled to New Orleans, Louisiana, to help residents still overcoming hurricane damage. The teams traveled between March 8 and March 16, 2025. Congratulations to all involved for a successful week of life-changing learning and service!

One group traveled to Lakota Nation, South Dakota, and worked with the Lakota Youth Development, a nonprofit organization located on the Rosebud Sioux Tribe Reservation. The other traveled to South Carolina, and worked to improve trails at a state park and prepare urban garden spaces within a framework of centering Black students in a space of belonging. They traveled between March 9 and March 17, 2024. Congratulations to all involved for a successful week of life-changing learning and service!

Ohio Wesleyan University's Department of Performing Arts will present five performances of "The Spitfire Grill," an Americana musical, between April 10 and April 19, 2025. "The Spitfire Grill" celebrates community, redemption, and facing life's challenges hand-in-hand. Break a leg, Bishops!

Ohio Wesleyan's graduating senior art show, "Human Generated," opens April 12 with a public reception at the university's Richard M. Ross Art Museum. The juried exhibit, which runs through May 10, includes works from eight students. Congratulations, OWU artists!

Ohio Wesleyan University language students are now able to earn the Global Seal of Biliteracy, an internationally recognized micro-credential that enables them to verify their linguistic abilities when applying for jobs or graduate school. Biliterate students are able to comprehend (read and listen), speak, and write in two languages. Congratulations, Bishops, on earning this valuable micro-credential!

Ohio Wesleyan University held its 180th commencement ceremony on May 11, celebrating its Class of 2024. Keynote speaker Kelly McFarland Stratman of the League of Women Voters of the United States encouraged the new graduates to "make the conscious choice to opt in and to engage - and to take up the challenge" to keep the nation's democracy strong and secure.
