Ohio Wesleyan University inducted 25 second-year students into its Phi Society honorary during a campus ceremony April 1. The Phi Society recognizes sophomores who achieved a grade point average of 3.30 or better during their freshman year and who also are in the upper 20 percent of their class. Founded in 1929, the Phi Society is sponsored by Ohio Wesleyan's chapter of Phi Beta Kappa, the nation's oldest academic honor society. Congratulations to the 2019 Phi Society inductees!

Ohio Wesleyan University tapped 22 students for 2019 membership in the Mortar Board national honor society during a campus ceremony March 28. Mortar Board recognizes students with senior standing for exemplary scholarship, leadership and service. The honor society, founded in 1918, also "provides opportunities for continued leadership development, promotes service to colleges and universities, and encourages lifelong contributions to the global community." Congratulations to the newest Mortar Board members!

The Woltemade Center for Economics, Business and Entrepreneurship at Ohio Wesleyan University has selected six students as 2019-2020 Accounting Fellows. Being selected for the competitive program gives the fellows access to enhanced internship, research, and other opportunities. Congratulations!

Nearly 30 Ohio Wesleyan University students traveled to four sites in the United States and Mexico to complete learning and service experiences as part of OWU's 2019 Spring Break Interfaith Service Week. During their trips, the teams were guided by the program's "essential pillars" of restorative justice, transformative reflection, substantive community, and conscientious leadership. The students and their faculty-staff advisers traveled to the Lakota Nation in South Dakota to help rebuild Lakota-Anglo relationships and support Native American youth; to New York City to explore the intersection of gender, sexuality, and poverty; to Mexico to examine the economics of social responsibility and sustainable practices; and to Washington, D.C., to explore the many facets of power and poverty. Congratulations to all involved for a successful week of life-changing learning and service!

Ohio Wesleyan University has welcomed 16 first-year students into its Global Scholars Program in recognition of their potential for high academic achievement and passion for international issues. The four-year fellowships are awarded each fall by Ohio Wesleyan's Department of Education to first-year students with a high potential for success at the university and a stated interest in teaching at the pre-school, elementary, middle or high school level. Ohio Wesleyan University inducted new members into its Eta Chapter of Phi Beta Kappa at a campus ceremony May 11. The new inductees join a national honor society that counts 17 U.S. presidents, 40 Supreme Court justices, and more than 140 Nobel laureates among its members. Nationwide, only 10 percent of all U.S. colleges and universities have Phi Beta Kappa chapters, and each of the 286 chapters selects only 10 percent of their graduates to join annually through a highly selective, merit-based invitation process. Congratuations to all of the inductees!
