The Woltemade Center for Economics, Business and Entrepreneurship at Ohio Wesleyan University has selected three students for admittance into its fall 2022 class of Corns Business and Entrepreneurial Scholars. The competitive program is open to sophomores who have demonstrated strong academic performance, leadership in campus or community service organizations, and potential for achievement in business or as an entrepreneur. Corns Scholars receive $5,000 scholarships during both their junior and senior years. The program is designed to help them "combine classroom knowledge with the spontaneity of daily business applications and challenges, putting them a step ahead in the business world with future employers." Congratulations to these business-savvy Bishops!

Ohio Wesleyan University's Golden Bishop Awards are presented each academic year to recognize students for outstanding achievements in leadership and community service. Congratulations to all of the very deserving 2021-2022 Golden Bishops!

Two teams of Ohio Wesleyan University students spent a week helping others as part of OWU's annual Spring Break Service Week program. One group traveled to Lakota Nation, South Dakota, and worked with the Lakota Youth Development, a nonprofit organization located on the Rosebud Sioux Tribe Reservation. The other traveled to Houston, Texas, and worked with SBP to help rebuild a home damaged by Hurricane Harvey in 2017. They traveled between March 5 and 13, 2022. Congratulations to all involved for a successful week of life-changing learning and service!

Ohio Wesleyan's graduating senior art show, "Action Potential," opens April 9 with a public reception at the university's Richard M. Ross Art Museum. The juried exhibit, which runs through May 7, includes works from eight students. Congratulations, OWU artists!

Ohio Wesleyan University senior Anna Fender is one of 10 students statewide being honored with a 2022 Charles J. Ping Student Service Award in recognition of her "outstanding leadership and contributions to community service or service-learning." Fender of Sullivan, Illinois, also is one of two 2022 Ping Award recipients selected to receive $250 Legacy Award mini-grants to be contributed to her charity of choice. The honors are bestowed annually by the Ohio Campus Compact, a nonprofit consortium of 40 colleges and universities working to strengthen the overall capacity of the schools "to educate students for civic and social responsibility and to improve community life."

Ohio Wesleyan University student Anna duSaire is receiving an OWU-funded Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Grant to create a documentary film that explores the sense of belonging felt by the university's students of color. Congratulations, Anna!

Ohio Wesleyan University's Department of Performing Arts will present a showcase in April of eight new musical theatre works, all themed around moving toward (or away from) things we love. "Journeys of Love: A Festival of New Musical Theatre, Written by Professional Composers, Lyricists, and Book Writers" features songs and scenes from many of the most talented theatre-makers working in the industry right now. The university will present five performances of "Journeys of Love" at 7:30 p.m. April 1, 2, 8, and 9, and 2 p.m. April 10 on the Main Stage of Chappelear Drama Center, 45 Rowland Ave., Delaware. Congratulations to the cast and crew!

Ohio Wesleyan University's Department of Performing Arts will present four performances of "She Kills Monsters" at 8 p.m. Feb. 17-19 and at 2 p.m. Feb. 20, 2022. Congratulations to all of the students helping to make this production happen!

Fifty-three Ohio Wesleyan University students shared the results of their on- and off-campus summer research experiences at the university's 29th annual Patricia Belt Conrades Summer Science Research Symposium. Students presented information and answered questions about their projects during the hour-long symposium Sept. 27. "The crises that are upending our world -- from the immediate dilemma of the COVID-19 pandemic to the long-term existential threat of global climate change -- have boldly reminded us of our reliance on science, mathematics, and technology," their abstract booklet states. "We turn to scientists and their research to help us understand and solve such global challenges." Congratulations, presenters!

Ohio Wesleyan University has welcomed 20 first-year students into its Global Scholars Program in recognition of their potential for high academic achievement and passion for international issues. The selective four-year scholars program is part of Ohio Wesleyan's Global Studies Institute, a hub where faculty and students from the natural sciences, social sciences, humanities, and fine arts come together to explore issues from all academic disciplines and work toward real-world solutions. The four-year fellowships are awarded each fall by Ohio Wesleyan's Department of Education to first-year students with a high potential for success at the university and a stated interest in teaching at the pre-school, elementary, middle, or high school level. Ohio Wesleyan University is awarding 10 incoming first-year students with Choose Ohio First (COF) scholarships to support them in pursuing bachelor's degrees in the STEM fields of science (including medicine), technology, engineering, and mathematics. Each scholarship is worth up to $22,000, if the recipients continue to pursue STEM degrees throughout their OWU careers. Congratulations to Ohio Wesleyan's inaugural COF scholarship winners!

Ohio Wesleyan University has invited 19 students into its chapter of the Phi Eta Sigma National Honor Society this spring. Phi Eta Sigma recognizes first-year students who achieved a grade point average of 3.50 or better during their first semester and who also are in the upper 20 percent of their class. (Due to COVID-19, both first- and second-year students qualifying for this honor were invited to join the chapter simultaneously.) Founded in 1923, Phi Eta Sigma is the nation's oldest and largest honor society for first-year college and university students in all disciplines. Its motto is "Knowledge is Power." Ohio Wesleyan University inducted new members into its Eta Chapter of Phi Beta Kappa during a virtual ceremony May 28. The new inductees join a national academic honor society that counts 17 U.S. presidents, 42 Supreme Court justices, and more than 140 Nobel laureates among its members. Nationwide, only 10 percent of all U.S. colleges and universities have Phi Beta Kappa chapters, and each of the 290 chapters selects only 10 percent of its graduates to join annually through a highly selective, merit-based invitation process. Congratulations to OWU's newest Phi Beta Kappa inductees!

Ohio Wesleyan awards Baran Fellowships annually to help students pursue their graduate school and career goals. The recipients receive financial awards to support educational programs, internships, or other initiatives to make them more competitive candidates for graduate school admission and prestigious post-graduate fellowships, such as Fulbright Scholarships. The uniqueness of their artwork and the extraordinary conditions under which it was created has inspired "Unprecedented," this year's annual exhibition by Ohio Wesleyan University's graduating fine arts majors. The 2021 senior show will debut with a virtual reception at 5 p.m. May 1 and be on display at OWU's Richard M. Ross Art Museum from May 2 through May 28. Congratulations, OWU artists!
