Nearly 40 Ohio Wesleyan University students completed study-away experiences during the 2019 fall semester. Ohio Wesleyan University's Theta Deuteron chapter of the Phi Gamma Delta (FIJI) fraternity recently earned the 2018 Jordan Bowl, recognizing the brothers for having highest comparative scholarship among the nation's 147 FIJI chapters. This marks the OWU chapter's second national award in two years. The men also earned the 2017 Owen Cup for most improved scholarship. Congratulations, FIJI!

Ohio Wesleyan University welcomed nearly 80 first-year students into its Leland F. and Helen Schubert Honors Program this fall. To be invited to join the selective program, the incoming students were required to have a 3.5 high school GPA, a 28 ACT, or a 1300 SAT when admitted to the university. Ohio Wesleyan University students shared the results of their 2019 summer science research projects Sept. 23 at the university's 27th annual Patricia Belt Conrades Summer Science Research Symposium. Ohio Wesleyan University has welcomed 13 first-year students into its Global Scholars Program in recognition of their potential for high academic achievement and passion for international issues. The selective four-year scholars program is part of Ohio Wesleyan's Global Studies Institute, a hub where faculty and students from the natural sciences, social sciences, humanities, and fine arts come together to explore issues from all academic disciplines and work toward real-world solutions. Ohio Wesleyan University has selected 13 students as 2019-2020 Education Fellows. The four-year fellowships are awarded each fall by Ohio Wesleyan's Department of Education to first-year students with a high potential for success at the university and a stated interest in teaching at the pre-school, elementary, middle, or high school level. The Woltemade Center for Economics, Business and Entrepreneurship at Ohio Wesleyan University has selected four students for admittance into its fall class of Corns Business and Entrepreneurial Scholars. The competitive program is open to sophomores who have demonstrated strong academic performance, leadership in campus or community service organizations, and potential for achievement in business or as an entrepreneur. Corns Scholars receive $5,000 scholarships during both their junior and senior years. The program is designed to help the students "combine classroom knowledge with the spontaneity of daily business applications and challenges, putting them a step ahead in the business world with future employers." Congratulations to these business-savvy Bishops!

Ohio Wesleyan University inducted new members into its Eta Chapter of Phi Beta Kappa at a campus ceremony May 10. The new inductees join a national academic honor society that counts 17 U.S. presidents, 40 Supreme Court justices, and more than 140 Nobel laureates among its members. Nationwide, only 10 percent of all U.S. colleges and universities have Phi Beta Kappa chapters, and each of the 286 chapters selects only 10 percent of its graduates to join annually through a highly selective, merit-based invitation process. Congratuations to OWU's newest Phi Beta Kappa inductees!

Ohio Wesleyan University inducted 54 first-year students into its chapter of the Phi Eta Sigma National Honor Society during a campus ceremony April 23. Phi Eta Sigma recognizes freshmen who achieved a grade point average of 3.50 or better during their first semester and who also are in the upper 20 percent of their class. Founded in 1923, Phi Eta Sigma is the nation's oldest and largest honor society for first-year college and university students in all disciplines. Its motto is "Knowledge is Power." Congratulations to all of the inductees!

Ohio Wesleyan University inducted 23 students into the Omicron Delta Kappa national leadership honor society during a campus ceremony May 1. Omicron Delta Kappa recognizes students for excellence in leadership and character development. Founded in 1914, the national honor society seeks members who demonstrate leadership in one of five phases of campus life: scholarship; athletics; campus or community service, social and religious activities, and campus government; journalism, speech and mass media; and creative and performing arts. Undergraduate students selected for induction also must be juniors or seniors, rank in the upper 35 percent of their class, and demonstrate the five Omicron Delta Kappa ideals of scholarship, service, integrity, character, and fellowship. Congratulations to OWU's 2019 Omicron Delta Kappa inductees!

The celebration, held April 18, recognized Battling Bishop athletes from Ohio Wesleyan's 25 varsity sports for their academic and athletic successes. Congratulations, Bishops!

Ohio Wesleyan University inducted 25 second-year students into its Phi Society honorary during a campus ceremony April 1. The Phi Society recognizes sophomores who achieved a grade point average of 3.30 or better during their freshman year and who also are in the upper 20 percent of their class. Founded in 1929, the Phi Society is sponsored by Ohio Wesleyan's chapter of Phi Beta Kappa, the nation's oldest academic honor society. Congratulations to the 2019 Phi Society inductees!

Ohio Wesleyan University tapped 22 students for 2019 membership in the Mortar Board national honor society during a campus ceremony March 28. Mortar Board recognizes students with senior standing for exemplary scholarship, leadership and service. The honor society, founded in 1918, also "provides opportunities for continued leadership development, promotes service to colleges and universities, and encourages lifelong contributions to the global community." Congratulations to the newest Mortar Board members!

The Woltemade Center for Economics, Business and Entrepreneurship at Ohio Wesleyan University has selected six students as 2019-2020 Accounting Fellows. Being selected for the competitive program gives the fellows access to enhanced internship, research, and other opportunities. Congratulations!

Nearly 30 Ohio Wesleyan University students traveled to four sites in the United States and Mexico to complete learning and service experiences as part of OWU's 2019 Spring Break Interfaith Service Week. During their trips, the teams were guided by the program's "essential pillars" of restorative justice, transformative reflection, substantive community, and conscientious leadership. The students and their faculty-staff advisers traveled to the Lakota Nation in South Dakota to help rebuild Lakota-Anglo relationships and support Native American youth; to New York City to explore the intersection of gender, sexuality, and poverty; to Mexico to examine the economics of social responsibility and sustainable practices; and to Washington, D.C., to explore the many facets of power and poverty. Congratulations to all involved for a successful week of life-changing learning and service!
