Ohio Wesleyan University students shared the results of their 2020 summer science research projects Sept. 21 during the university's first online and 28th annual Patricia Belt Conrades Summer Science Research Symposium. The students presented information and answered questions about their mentored research during the virtual symposium. The presentations are available online at www.owu.edu/ssrp2020. Ohio Wesleyan University is welcoming more than 130 first- and second-year students into its Leland F. and Helen Schubert Honors Program. To be invited to join the selective program, incoming students are required to have a minimum 3.6 high school GPA when admitted to the university. Second-year students must have achieved at least a 3.5 GPA while at Ohio Wesleyan. The Honors Program provides students with a mentored pathway through their studies to help them develop skills in creative inquiry, pursue advanced topics within and across academic disciplines, and master complex analytical and research skills. The selective four-year scholars program is part of Ohio Wesleyan's Global Studies Institute, a hub where faculty and students from the natural sciences, social sciences, humanities, and fine arts come together to explore issues from all academic disciplines and work toward real-world solutions. Ohio Wesleyan University has selected 18 students as 2020-2021 Education Fellows. The four-year fellowships are awarded each fall by Ohio Wesleyan's Department of Education to first-year students with a high potential for success at the university and a stated interest in teaching at the pre-school, elementary, middle, or high school level. Congratulations to OWU's newest Education Fellows!

Ohio Wesleyan University tapped 12 students this spring for membership in the Mortar Board national honor society. Mortar Board recognizes students with senior standing for exemplary scholarship, leadership, and service. The honor society, founded in 1918, also "provides opportunities for continued leadership development, promotes service to colleges and universities, and encourages lifelong contributions to the global community." Ohio Wesleyan University honored its outstanding 2019-2020 student-athletes at the 16th annual Dale J. Bruce Scholar-Athlete Awards ceremony. The virtual celebration, held April 23, recognized Battling Bishop athletes from Ohio Wesleyan's 25 varsity sports for their academic and athletic successes. Congratulations, Bishops!

The Woltemade Center for Economics, Business and Entrepreneurship at Ohio Wesleyan University has selected six students for admittance into its fall class of Corns Business and Entrepreneurial Scholars. The competitive program is open to sophomores who have demonstrated strong academic performance, leadership in campus or community service organizations, and potential for achievement in business or as an entrepreneur. Corns Scholars receive $5,000 scholarships during both their junior and senior years. The program is designed to help the students "combine classroom knowledge with the spontaneity of daily business applications and challenges, putting them a step ahead in the business world with future employers." Congratulations to these business-savvy Bishops!

The Woltemade Center for Economics, Business and Entrepreneurship at Ohio Wesleyan University has selected eight students as 2020-2021 Accounting Fellows. Being selected for the competitive program gives the fellows access to enhanced internship, research, and other opportunities. Congratulations!

Ohio Wesleyan University inducted new members into its Eta Chapter of Phi Beta Kappa during a virtual ceremony May 8. The new inductees join a national academic honor society that counts 17 U.S. presidents, 41 Supreme Court justices, and more than 140 Nobel laureates among its members. Nationwide, only 10 percent of all U.S. colleges and universities have Phi Beta Kappa chapters, and each of the 290 chapters selects only 10 percent of its graduates to join annually through a highly selective, merit-based invitation process. Congratulations to OWU's newest Phi Beta Kappa inductees!

Nearly 40 Ohio Wesleyan University students completed study-away experiences during the 2019 fall semester. Ohio Wesleyan University's Theta Deuteron chapter of the Phi Gamma Delta (FIJI) fraternity recently earned the 2018 Jordan Bowl, recognizing the brothers for having highest comparative scholarship among the nation's 147 FIJI chapters. This marks the OWU chapter's second national award in two years. The men also earned the 2017 Owen Cup for most improved scholarship. Congratulations, FIJI!
