Ohio Wesleyan University has invited 19 students into its chapter of the Phi Eta Sigma National Honor Society this spring. Phi Eta Sigma recognizes first-year students who achieved a grade point average of 3.50 or better during their first semester and who also are in the upper 20 percent of their class. (Due to COVID-19, both first- and second-year students qualifying for this honor were invited to join the chapter simultaneously.) Founded in 1923, Phi Eta Sigma is the nation's oldest and largest honor society for first-year college and university students in all disciplines. Its motto is "Knowledge is Power." Ohio Wesleyan University inducted new members into its Eta Chapter of Phi Beta Kappa during a virtual ceremony May 28. The new inductees join a national academic honor society that counts 17 U.S. presidents, 42 Supreme Court justices, and more than 140 Nobel laureates among its members. Nationwide, only 10 percent of all U.S. colleges and universities have Phi Beta Kappa chapters, and each of the 290 chapters selects only 10 percent of its graduates to join annually through a highly selective, merit-based invitation process. Congratulations to OWU's newest Phi Beta Kappa inductees!

Ohio Wesleyan awards Baran Fellowships annually to help students pursue their graduate school and career goals. The recipients receive financial awards to support educational programs, internships, or other initiatives to make them more competitive candidates for graduate school admission and prestigious post-graduate fellowships, such as Fulbright Scholarships. The Woltemade Center for Economics, Business and Entrepreneurship at Ohio Wesleyan University has selected six students for admittance into its fall class of Corns Business and Entrepreneurial Scholars. The competitive program is open to sophomores who have demonstrated strong academic performance, leadership in campus or community service organizations, and potential for achievement in business or as an entrepreneur. Corns Scholars receive $5,000 scholarships during both their junior and senior years. The program is designed to help them "combine classroom knowledge with the spontaneity of daily business applications and challenges, putting them a step ahead in the business world with future employers." Congratulations to these business-savvy Bishops!

The uniqueness of their artwork and the extraordinary conditions under which it was created has inspired "Unprecedented," this year's annual exhibition by Ohio Wesleyan University's graduating fine arts majors. The 2021 senior show will debut with a virtual reception at 5 p.m. May 1 and be on display at OWU's Richard M. Ross Art Museum from May 2 through May 28. Congratulations, OWU artists!

Ohio Wesleyan University students shared the results of their 2020 summer science research projects Sept. 21 during the university's first online and 28th annual Patricia Belt Conrades Summer Science Research Symposium. Ohio Wesleyan University is welcoming more than 130 first- and second-year students into its Leland F. and Helen Schubert Honors Program. To be invited to join the selective program, incoming students are required to have a minimum 3.6 high school GPA when admitted to the university. Second-year students must have achieved at least a 3.5 GPA while at Ohio Wesleyan. The Honors Program provides students with a mentored pathway through their studies to help them develop skills in creative inquiry, pursue advanced topics within and across academic disciplines, and master complex analytical and research skills. Mortar Board recognizes students with senior standing for exemplary scholarship, leadership, and service.
